The 2018 NFL Draft has been highly anticipated and hyped up. Top QB prospects are being touted as “faces of franchises” and they include Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield. Follow along live as the nation’s top college football players begin their transitions to the National Football League.

Pick 1 – Cleveland – Baker Mayfield

Throughout draft day, the rumors shifted from Josh Allen to Baker Mayfield in terms of who the Cleveland Browns were expected to pick with the first overall selection. The late rumors proved accurate when NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced that Cleveland was taking Mayfield. The Heisman Trophy winner dominated the BIG12 conference, and led the Oklahoma Sooners to the college football playoff semifinal where they ultimately fell to the Georgia Bulldogs in double overtime at the rose bowl.

There are questions surrounding mayfield in terms of his character. Mayfield had multiple notable incidents that led people to these concerns, including planting the “OU” flag at midfield after Oklahoma upset Ohio State in a week 2 matchup that ultimately helped to bring the sooners to the college football playoff. Another misstep happened when baker mayfield grabbed his “parts” in a game against Kansas. He ultimately apologized for this.

Pick 2 – New York Giants – Saquon Barkley

The versatile running back and receiver from penn state, Saquon Barkley, was expected to be drafted by the Giants. It wasn’t always viewed that way however until giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. was seen working out with Barkley at a giants camp. Giants GM Dave Gettleman also made numerous comments ruling out Josh Rosen and other top prospects, making this pick more predictable.

Pick 3 – New York Jets – Sam Darnold

Since the 2016 Rose Bowl where Sam Darnold lit up Penn State in a classic new year’s six matchup, all eyes were on Sam Darnold to be the number 1 overall pick in this year’s draft. He was the favorite to win the heisman this past college football season, but ultimately performed well below expectations. He really was expected to go at one overall to cleveland right up until late march where rumors about Josh Allen began to take shape.

Pick 4 – Cleveland Browns – Denzel Ward

A surprising pick, where everyone expected Cleveland to take North Carolina State DE Bradley Chubb at 4, regardless of their potential quarterback options at 1. The Browns broke the rumors and took Ohio State CB Denzel Ward. Widely considered the best corner in the draft, ward will head to cleveland already will plenty of fans knowing his name. The Ohio State star seems like he will fit in nicely with a developing cleveland defense.

Pick 5 – Denver Broncos – Bradley Chubb

There you go. The man widely expected to go at 4 to cleveland finds a home in the rocky mountains. The Denver Broncos select Chubb at 5 after cleveland passed on the DE. Von miller complimented chubb, and now they are teammates in Denver.

Pick 6 – Indianapolis Colts – Quinten Nelson

The Notre Dame offensive guard who would’ve been a nice fit on the New York Giants, didn’t come off the board until the 6th pick of the draft. The colts look to boost a weak offensive line to help protect star quarterback Andrew Luck, as they look to turn around a string of recent failures.

Pick 7 – Buffalo Bills – Josh Allen

A man rumored to go at number one for about a week up until draft day falls all the way to 7 and is heading to Buffalo. The bills acquired this pick from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and after the bills traded Tyrod Taylor to Cleveland, they needed a new man under center.

Josh Allen has been drowning in a bit of controversy last night and this morning as old tweets surfaced where he used offensive language. Allen has said he was quoting songs and TV shows and that was where the tweets came from. It’s more than plausible that the Browns were ready to take him at number 1 overall until this news came out.

Pick 8 – Chicago Bears – Roquan Smith

The touted Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith has been rising and rising in mock drafts over the final few weeks and it has paid off as he lands at number 8 overall. He is heading to chicago to try and help a defense that desperately needs him.

Pick 9 – San Francisco 49ers – Mike McGlinchey

With Jimmy Garoppolo secured and signed to a monster contract, the niners are out of the QB market. They pick up the offensive tackle from Notre Dame looking to protect their prized passer. McGlinchey started all 12 games for Notre Dame during the 2017 regular season.

Pick 10 – Oakland Raiders, Traded to the Arizona Cardinals – Josh Rosen

Coming off a disappointing season where the Cardinals were expected to return to the playoffs, they found themselves without a quarterback. 38 Year old passer Carson Palmer retired following the season where he was injured for a significant amount of time. After adding Justin Pugh, they fixed a hole on their offensive line, but still need a new Quarterback. The Cardinals traded for this pick at the last minute from Oakland and selected Rosen.

Josh Rosen was getting noticeably nervous on screen, and when Arizona acquired the pick, it was widely expected they would take him since they are a team with a big need for a quarterback. A sigh of relief for the UCLA prospect was seen on stage after finally coming off the board almost an hour into the Draft.

Pick 11 – Miami Dolphins – Minkah Fitzpatrick

I personally believed that oakland would take Fitzpatrick out of Alabama. Seemed like a good fit for a team that needed a new safety. However, once Oakland’s pick was traded to Arizona, a team that desperately needed a Quarterback, it became clear he would go next at 11 to the Dolphins. Miami looks to begin rebuilding a team that just traded their prized receiver, Jarvis Landry, with one of the best prospects in the SEC and the country.
